Throughout the year, the habitats reflect the changing seasons.

Marcia Lea is a landscape architect.

The upland [forest] is seasonally one of the more interesting. In the spring the… ephemerals come up,… they're white, delicate flowers, some of the leaves are very dramatic as they unfurl,… then in the summer the foliage comes out and it becomes very dense, you can't actually see the mall through the upland forest when you're walking towards the entrance to the museum. And then in the fall, some of the plants turn colors early, very vibrant reds, oranges, yellows… and it becomes a treat to see.

Two times of the day are my favorite. Early morning when the sun is… just coming up and then late afternoon early evening when the sun is setting… And the light is just um very subtle… and the streets are quieter… and you can immerse yourself in the landscape and not be disturbed.
