About the Artwork
Peek-a Bamboo, Holbein Acryla Gouache
When I did my first "peek-a book," "Peek-a Who?" in 2000 I invented this "fake woodcut technique" which I've enjoyed using in my board books. The panda was interesting to paint because black is usually the background color, but in this case I had to use a different color to offset the large areas of black.
I have been illustrating and writing books for over twenty-two years now professionally, and before that I was a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. I truly enjoy re-inventing myself with each book I do. I say that "the book tells me how it wants to be illustrated."
