About the Artist
When I was a kid, my dad often took us fishing in the Puget Sound. One time, we brought up the line only to find a small octopus on the end! We threw him back in, but afterward, I couldn't help wondering what it would be like to have an octopus for a pet. This piece is one of a series that explores the fun and complications of that relationship.
I think there's no greater compliment than when a child sees my artwork and exclaims, "That's so silly!" or "That one's me!" I enjoy observing how children interact with the world and capturing those sweetly shared moments, sudden discoveries, and joyous exchanges in my art. I work mainly in watercolor and colored pencil, though I also use ink and chalk pastels. I believe all children should be exposed to illustrations that comfort, delight, and inspire.
