About the Artwork

Window Girl, Watercolor/Digital

It's not enough for a series of images to tell her story. Kary's goal is to have every image stand alone. Every single one has to have AIR; Action, Interaction and Reaction. Although her execution varies depending on the project style, realistic or whimsical, Kary prefers traditional watercolor. She uses light and its illuminating play on the subject matter to mold her images. Whenever possible she lets the pigments mix and blend on the paper to keep colors vibrant and alive. "It's the glue that holds together the feel and personality of the composition. Every brush stroke is calculated. The fewer the strokes, the fresher the feel. Too much and the illustration becomes overworked, flat and muddy." In addition, she does pencil and ink images, and digital is working its way into the process. But there's just something about paint on paper that keeps her muse happy
