About the Artwork

This artwork was commissioned as part of the development of the South Bellevue Community Center in 2004. Seattle Times' Sheila Farr described the work: "As the title suggests, there is a ceremonial feel to the installation, which includes a massive stone slab at its center surrounded by six stone stools. You can imagine it as a sacrificial altar for some primitive rite or a pleasant spot for a family picnic."

Just across Newport Way are a number of other works by John T. Young on view for the public at the Newport Way Library. Don't forget to check them out too!
