I started bringing plants into my studio and looking more closely at them, examining and dissecting them. After many years of closely observing natural forms, collecting plants, and watching my vessels slowly transform into sculptural biomorphic forms, I began inventing my own hybrid flower/animal species using botanical nomenclature as my departure point.

The Artist

Carol Gouthro (Seattle), a graduate of the University of Manitoba, School of Art, Canada, is a ceramic artist and educator who has an extensive exhibition record, with 25 solo shows and numerous invitational and juried national exhibitions. Her work has been published in numerous books and featured in many publications including most recently Ceramics Art and Perception. Her ceramics are included in many public and private collections including the Racine Art Museum and the University of Washington Medical Center ceramics collection. Carol teaches locally at Seward Park Clay Studio and the Kirkland Art Center. She teaches workshops in the US and Canada, and leads international arts and crafts tours. Carol is currently working towards a solo exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey which opens in February 2015.
