About Rhododendrons

Originally installed in the Kingdome prior to the stadium's demolition, Harold Balazs' porcelain enamel on steel murals are more accessible now than in the original installation, and are indicative of this artist's large body of enamel work. Rhododendrons were commissioned as part of King County's Honors program.

About Untitled #625

Robert Sperry's ceramic tile mural, Untitled #625 is a robust example of this regionally influential artist's work. Using kiln shelves and colored slip, Sperry constructed a meditation in black and white. For many years Sperry headed the Ceramics department at the University of Washington.

About Lunar Promenade

The painter Alden Mason, whose painting Lunar Promenade hangs adjacent to Sperry's piece, was introduced by Sperry to the technique of applying pigment directly from a squeeze bottle, a surface that can be seen in the artist's painting Yellow Bird, currently installed in the Washington State Convention Center.

About Sandworm

George Tsutakawa's tubular steel sculpture, Sandworm, originally created for a children's park, is one of several Tsutakawa works in Seattle's downtown. Sandworm was commissioned as part of King County's Honors program.

Directions to the NEXT STOP

Turn right and cross the street at the light to go on to the next stop, The Chinook Building.

Alternatively, exit the King County Administration Building the same way you came in and go left at the sidewalk. Cross Jefferson Street at the light and walk up/northeast Jefferson to 5th Avenue. Turn right onto 5th Avenue and walk approximately a quarter block to the entrance of The Chinook Building, which will be on your right.
